I will admit, when I first started using essential oils, I was very skeptical regarding their effect on emotions! I didn’t understand how smelling something could change your mood until I learned about the science of it, heard other people’s stories and more importantly experienced it myself. Now, as you can see from the list above, I don’t go a day without using my arsenal of oils to keep me calm, uplifted, balanced, grounded, upbeat, less anxious and out of my depression slumps. I can’t imagine getting through everything I did over the past few years without supporting myself and feeling like by grabbing an oil and enjoying the scent, I had a level of control and strength to endure the toughest days of my life.
Essential oils are comprised of many types chemical constituents that effect the body physiologically in different ways. This graphic gives a general idea of how they work aromatically with the body to support emotions. In a later post, I will attempt a more detailed scientific explanation of the chemistry of oils and their properties.
One of the most impactful testimonies I heard in terms of emotional effects was from a customer who suffered from panic attacks for years and usually took a medicine which took a while to settle her down. She put a couple drops of lavender on her wrists at the beginning of an attack and immediately felt better. It was completely over in the matter of a minute and she didn’t need to take her meds. The hug she gave me for introducing her to oils is one I will never forget.
Relatively soon after I discovered doTERRA, I started the divorce process which led to a multitude of major changes in my life. Unfortunately it was anything but amicable so it was now time for me to put the oils to the test in this capacity and they did not disappoint!! I used all of doTERRA’s Emotional Aromatherapy Touch Blends (Console, Passion, Peace, Cheer, Motivate, Forgive) on a daily basis along with several other ones depending on the day and what I was facing. Balance Grounding blend was a definite staple used several times a day. I would apply a few drops on the bottom of my feet each morning and use in a roller bottle with Serenity to calm and relax me and another roller bottle with Elevation to raise my spirits. Frankincense and Copaiba taken internally help keep your body, mind and spirit on an even keel on a cellular level as well.
